Fresenius Kabi IV Fluid Stewardship Program

Written by | 20 Sep 2024 | Fresenius Kabi

IV fluid stewardship and why it matters.

The effective implementation of fluid stewardship is intended to improve clinical outcomes by optimizing intravenous (IV) fluid administration and minimizing the detrimental effects of inappropriate fluid administration. It is a process that calls for input from pharmacists at many levels, including prescribing and monitoring of treatment, safe supply and administration of fluids and management of purchasing and storage.

At the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in December 2023 a satellite symposium, supported by an educational grant from Fresenius Kabi addressed this topic. Expert speakers described the clinical implementation of IV fluid stewardship, measures to improve the safe use of large volume IV fluids and the impact of IV fluid shortages.
